Manipur: Assam Rifles jawan killed in IED blast, police suspect position of militant

A sixteenth Assam Rifles jawan was killed and one other injured on Wednesday in a strong explosion triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants at Lilong in Manipur’s Thoubal district.

Police stated the incident befell round 1:35 pm in Sangamsang space alongside National Highway-102 (Imphal-Moreh Road). The Assam Rifles staff was on common patrol on the time of IED blast.

Police speculated that the IED could have been planted concentrating on the sixteenth Assam Rifles staff which often rests close to the blast web site after its obligation.

The deceased personnel had been recognized as L Wangshu, 30, from Arunachal Pradesh, whereas the injured was recognized as Pingku Das, 25, from Tripura.

A police led by Thoubal SP reached the spot to take inventory of the scenario, laid siege and launched search operation in and across the space. However, no arrest was reported. Police have registered a case in reference to the incident.
