Manipur authorities introduced Rs. 12 million to athletes who received gold in Tokyo Olympics

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday introduced money prizes for athletes from the state who received medals on the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The Chief Minister made this announcement in the course of the launch of “Selfie Point” to encourage the Indian Olympic contingent on the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

N. Biren Singh stated that the state authorities would give a money award of Rs. 1.2 crore to the gold medalists. 1 crore for silver medalists and Rs. 7.5 million for the bronze medalists within the Tokyo Olympics.

Besides this, Singh additionally stated that the state will present a money incentive of Rs. 2.5 million to all of the 5 athletes representing the nation within the Tokyo Olympics.

“It is a matter of pride for a small state like Manipur as five players are being selected to represent the country in the Olympics. I am that the sportspersons will applaud and wish them success on behalf of the people of Manipur,” stated N. Biren Singh stated.

The 5 athletes chosen for the Summer Olympics from Manipur to this point are London Olympic bronze medalist MC Mary Kom, Sushila Likmabam (Judo), Saikhom Mirabai (Weightlifting), Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu and Shangalakpam Neelkanth Sharma (Hockey).
