Martin Scorsese on field workplace obsession: ‘It’s type of repulsive’

Director Martin Scorsese took the stage on the New York Film Festival on Wednesday and revealed that the emphasis is now solely on the movie’s field workplace numbers, price and opening weekend.

The filmmaker started by saying, “Cinema is devalued, degraded, humiliated from all sides, not necessarily the commercial side but certainly the art.”

He continued, “Since the ’80s, the focus has been on numbers. It’s kind of repulsive. The cost of a film is one thing. Understand that a film costs a certain amount, they are the least amount. Hoping to get back, as well, again. Now the emphasis is on numbers, cost, opening weekend, how much it made in the USA, how much it made in England, how much it made in Asia, how much it made all over the world, how many Meet the audience.”

Scorsese concluded by saying, “As a filmmaker, and as someone who can’t imagine life without cinema, I’ve always found it really outrageous. I’ve always known That ideas like this have no place at the New York Film Festival, and here’s the key: There are no awards here. You don’t have to compete. You just have to love the cinema here.”

Martin Scorsese’s upcoming movie Killer of the Flower Moon can be launched in 2023.
