Eight personnel had been suspended on Sunday after policemen allegedly lynched a mentally unstable man in Karnataka’s Kodagu district after violating the lockdown norms, a senior police officer mentioned. .

IGP Karnataka Southern Range Praveen Madhukar Pawar mentioned the incident involving Roy D’Souza (50) passed off on June 9 close to Virajpet Town police station. Police have recognized the suspended officers as head constable MU Sunil posted at Virajpet and police constables NS Lokesh, HJ Tanukumar, NH Satish, Sunil ML, Ramesh A, KG Nehru and BT Pradeep.

Meanwhile, the police have claimed that D’Souza was assaulted after he threatened his personnel.

The case has been handed over to the State Crime Investigation Department (CID).
