New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell on Sunday mentioned he took cues from India opener Mayank Agarwal to tackle the house group’s spinners on the third day of the second Test right here.
Mitchell (60 off 92 balls) shared a 73-run partnership with Henry Nicholls (36 batting) for the fourth wicket, offering much-needed resistance as New Zealand confronted an unimaginable goal of 540.
After the top of the day’s play, Mitchell mentioned, ‘Create a blueprint for Mayank’s batting, the best way he put stress on our spinners.
“Still disappointed not to be out and kicking, but it’s good to see the partnership grow.”
Mitchell admitted that his group is certainly in a troublesome place in Tests.
“They (Indian bowlers) are continuously throwing issues at you and you are attempting to counter that. You need to hold making an attempt to win small battles.
“We’re in a tough situation, but it was just trying to go out and do what we can. Obviously it’s very challenging.”
Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took three fast wickets to bowl New Zealand out for 140 for 5 at stumps.
Talking concerning the Wankhede pitch, he mentioned, “It’s fairly a difficult floor, undoubtedly the balls are turning together with your title on it.
“It’s just about trying to put pressure on the bowlers. That’s the beauty of Test cricket.”
