Modi calls Mauritius PM, condoles father’s dying

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth to condole the dying of his father and veteran chief Anirudh Jugnauth.

“I called @MauritiusPM Pravind Jagannath to express my heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Sir Anirudh Jagannath. He will be remembered as one of the tallest leaders of the Indian Ocean region and a key architect of India’s special friendship with Mauritius,” Modi tweeted.

Former Prime Minister Anirudh Jugnauth handed away on Thursday. In a tweet that day, Modi described Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian awardee, Anirudh Jugnauth, because the architect politician of recent Mauritius.

As a mark of respect, the Government of India has declared a day of state mourning throughout the nation on Saturday.
