The CBI, which is probing the 2016 Narada sting case, informed a five-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday that the May 17 proceedings within the trial court docket have been “contaminated with pressure tactics never seen before in this country”.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, was referring to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s arrival on the CBI workplaces after the arrest of 4 TMC leaders.

The trial court docket had granted bail to the 4 Trinamool Congress leaders, however the order was stayed by a division bench of the High Court.

“I am not seeking cancellation of bail. I am saying that the proceedings of the special court itself have gone haywire. If I am seeking cancellation of bail, I have to show grounds like possibility of destruction of evidence etc. This is not my argument,” Mehta stated.

A five-judge bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justices IP Mukherjee, Harish Tandon, Soumen Sen and Arijit Banerjee adjourned the matter until Wednesday.
