The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Wednesday sought clarifications from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and UNICEF on the proposed screening of eight quick movies on gay relationships in a number of colleges in West Bengal. The screening was to be organized by UNICEF accomplice Prayasam.

“We have acquired a grievance relating to screening of movies associated to same-sex relationships for minor audiences. We have sought particulars on whether or not they have acquired the required certification. Since these movies are associated to sexual relations, we need to make sure that the content material is above board, as they are going to be proven to minors,” mentioned NCPCR chairman Priyank Kanungo. In a letter to Yasumasa Kimura, India’s consultant for UNICEF, the NCPCR has cited information stories during which Prayasam director Prashant Roy mentioned that screening of movies can be performed after colleges reopen. In a letter to CBFC Chairman Prasoon Joshi, the NCPCR has requested whether or not these movies have gotten certification for screening in West Bengal.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Roy mentioned, “We know the guidelines of NCPCR and … we cannot violate them. But we believe films like this should be shown to prevent bullying to young teens.”
