Commonwealth Games champion boxer Neetu Ghanghas (48kg) on Wednesday assured India of its first medal on the ongoing Women’s World Championships by advancing to the semi-finals right here.
The 22-year-old boxer from Haryana registered a second spherical RSC (Referee Stop Contest) win over Japan’s Madoka Wada of their quarterfinal bout to guarantee herself and India of no less than a bronze medal.
The Indian performed with aggression and unleashed a flurry of punches on her opponent, forcing the referee to cease the bout and rule in favor of Neetu.
By RSC determination, Neetu has gained all her three bouts within the match thus far.
Reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Sakshi Chowdhary (52kg), Manisha Moun (57kg), Jasmine Lamboria (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Sweety Boora (81kg) and Nupur Sheoran (+81kg) kg) together with seven Indian boxers. Will attempt to make the final 4 levels later within the day.
