Iraq’s parliament on Thursday elected Kurdish politician Abdul Latif Rashid as president, in response to two lawmakers, paving the way in which for the formation of a brand new authorities and ending a year-long standoff.
Rashid, 78, is a British-educated engineer and was Iraqi Water Resources Minister from 2003–2010.
He has 15 days to ask a candidate from the most important parliamentary bloc to type the federal government.
