NHRC panel submits report back to Calcutta HC on post-poll violence in Bengal

A committee constituted by the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday submitted a report earlier than the Calcutta High Court on circumstances of alleged human rights violations within the post-poll violence in West Bengal.

A five-judge bench of the High Court, whereas listening to PILs alleging post-poll violence within the state, had directed that the committee would study all circumstances whose complaints have already been acquired by the NHRC or no matter. The NHRC committee submitted the report earlier than the courtroom in a sealed cowl. A five-judge bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justices IP Mukherjee, Harish Tandon, Soumen Sen and Subrata Talukdar directed that the matter be taken up for listening to once more on July 2.

The High Court had on June 18 directed the NHRC chairman to represent the committee. The committee members acquired representations from the complainants in Salt Lake for 3 consecutive days until Tuesday.

According to an official, the committee headed by Rajiv Jain and several other groups of NHRC visited varied locations in West Bengal and checked the veracity of the complaints.
