NHRC units up panel to probe post-poll violence in Bengal

Following the instructions of the Calcutta High Court, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday constituted a committee to inquire into incidents of post-poll violence in West Bengal. The eight-member committee can be headed by NHRC member Rajeev Jain and is about to begin an investigation instantly.

In a press release, the NHRC mentioned the committee would “investigate all cases of post-poll violence in West Bengal for which complaints have already been received in the NHRC”, or which can be obtained.

Besides Jain, Atif Rashid, Deputy Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities; (Dr) Rajulben L Desai, Member, National Commission for Women, West Bengal State Human Rights Commission together with two officers are a part of the fee.
