One VC every from SC-ST group in central universities: Education ministry

Only one vice chancellor throughout central universities within the nation belongs to SC group, one to ST group whereas seven are from OBC group, based on Ministry of Education information.

Similarly, two registrars in central universities belong to SC group, 5 to ST group and three registrars belong to OBC group.

The statistics from 45 central universities have been shared by Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar in response to a written query in Lok Sabha.

As per information until April 1, 1,306 out of 12,373 academics in 45 central universities belong to SC group, 568 (ST), and 1,740 (OBC) whereas 8,386 are from basic class.

Among the non-teaching employees in central universities, 2,063 out of twenty-two,096 employees members belong to the SC class, 1,186 (ST), 2,342 (OBC) and 16,132 belong to the final class.

“Government of India has enacted the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Act, 2019 to ensure adequate representation of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBCs) and Economically Weaker Sections ( EWSs),” Sarkar mentioned.

The query was requested whether or not the disadvantaged social classes like SCs, STs and OBCs are adequately represented within the central varsities.
