In a written reply within the Rajya Sabha, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari mentioned electrical charging stations are to be offered by the developer on nationwide highways as a part of the wayside facilities (WSAs).

“The number of electric vehicles in the country, as per Vahan 4 data as on March 19, is 10,60,707, and a total of 1,742 Public Charging Stations (PCS), as per Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), are operational in the country as on March 21, 2022,” Gadkari mentioned.

He mentioned the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already awarded 39 such amenities for improvement.

Replying to a separate query, Gadkari mentioned 816 payment toll plazas are operational on nationwide highways throughout the nation as of March 21, 2022.

On the coverage concerning winding up of a toll plaza, he defined that as per National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, in case of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) tasks, after completion of the concession interval, the person payment is to be collected by the central authorities at diminished charges of 40 per cent. In the case of public-funded tasks, the person payment charges are to be diminished to 40 per cent after restoration of the capital price of the venture, the minister mentioned.

According to Gadkari, Rajasthan (122), Uttar Pradesh (90) and Madhya Pradesh (77) have a most variety of payment plazas.

Replying to a different query, he mentioned about ₹ 20,268.45 crore and an quantity of ₹ 1,189.94 crore has been launched/spent on tasks sanctioned underneath the Central Road & Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and Economic Importance & Interstate Connectivity (EI&ISC) scheme respectively over the past three years.
