Passengers injured after catamaran ferry hits rocks close to Ibiza

Several folks have been being handled in hospital on Sunday after a ship capsized off the Spanish island of Ibiza.

Emergency providers advised native media that 25 folks have been injured within the incident, together with a 10-year-old boy who was taken to hospital.

The catamaran quick ferry San Guan belonging to the German transport firm FRS was en route from Ibiza to Formentera late Saturday when it ran aground on a rocky outpost between two Mediterranean islands.

The aircraft had 35 passengers and 12 crew members on board, native officers and the FRS confirmed.

10-year-old boy critically injured

One of the passengers was a 10-year-old boy, who was badly injured and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Mallorca, the regional newspaper Diario de Ibiza reported, citing officers.

San Guan, a automotive ferry, travels half-hour between Ibiza and Formentera with 427 passengers.

In a message on its web site on Sunday, the German agency that owns the boat mentioned the road had been suspended and that “the priority lies with the passengers and crew.”

Francina Armengol, regional president of the Balearic Islands, thanked emergency providers in a Twitter publish on Sunday.

Later on Sunday, she mentioned: “Most of the injured have already been discharged, but we are still paying close attention to the child admitted to Son Espaces. The cause of the accident is being investigated and the boat pulled. The work is already being done. There has been no leakage or leakage of fuel oil.”
