PM declares reduction of Rs 2 lakh for the subsequent of kin of 20 folks killed by lightning in South Bengal

At least 20 folks have been killed in south Bengal’s Murshidabad, Hooghly and Purba Medinipur districts on Monday when lightning struck them.

According to the state catastrophe administration officer, 9 folks every died in Murshidabad and Hooghly, whereas two folks misplaced their lives in Purba Medinipur. Three extra folks have been injured in Murshidabad after being struck by lightning, who’ve been admitted to Jangipur Hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday provided condolences to the households of these killed, and permitted an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the subsequent of kin of these killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured. “My condolences to all those who lost their loved ones due to lightning in some parts of West Bengal. Let the injured recover at the earliest,” tweeted the Prime Minister.

“There is a possibility of rain accompanied by high tide at the same time and the combined effect could lead to breaches of the embankments. It is requested that necessary steps may be taken just before 9th June to strengthen and repair embankments in the coastal areas and riverine areas. Along with this there will also be rain and thunderstorms. All districts are requested to take steps to create awareness about electricity, especially among farmers and people working in open fields, to take shelter in pucca structures during lightning/thunder,” learn the letter.

The division requested the KMC to take quick steps to arrange for the monsoon and unfold consciousness concerning the steps to be taken throughout floods and thunderstorms.
