The Health Ministry on Tuesday mentioned that forty-five out of 73 districts which have recorded greater than 10 per cent Covid-19 positivity price within the final one week are from the northeastern area of the nation.

According to the Health Ministry, 73 districts of India registered a positivity price of greater than 10 per cent through the week of June 29 to July 5. Sixty-one % of those excessive positivity districts are from the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh (18), Manipur (9), Meghalaya (6), Tripura (4), Sikkim (4), Nagaland (3), and Mizoram (1).

In this area, Manipur (5,974) has the best variety of energetic instances, adopted by Meghalaya (4,354), Tripura (3,962), Mizoram (3,730), Sikkim (1,869) and Nagaland (1,192).

Flagging off the nation’s COVID-19 process drive member and Director General of ICMR, Dr Balram Bhargava, the Northeast must ramp up testing, maintain a “close watch” on the check positivity price on the district degree and arrange micro management space.

“One thing I want to emphasize especially for the northeastern states is that we are encouraging them to do more testing and increase reporting of testing. The problem there is heavy rains… Most importantly, we have to keep a close watch on the average test positivity rate. This is the most important thing that helped in the second wave – if (positivity rate) is getting more than 10 per cent, they have to create micro containment zones,” Bhargava mentioned.

He mentioned that whereas 595 districts are reporting lower than 5 per cent positivity, a mean of 18 lakh every day assessments are to be maintained by the states as a few of them are nonetheless in the course of the second wave.

“Today, we have more than 73 districts with more than 10 per cent positivity, 65 districts with positivity rate between 5-10 per cent, 595 districts which are below 5 per cent. The second wave has subsided in most states. However, some states are still in the middle of a second wave…we have to maintain a high level of testing. We are conducting an average of 18 lakh tests per day; We need to maintain the momentum,” Bhargava mentioned.

Bhargava reiterated that districts reporting greater than 10 per cent positivity must re-implement strict containment measures. “If the check positivity is lower than 5 per cent, it’s a good signal, and the administration might chill out restrictions. But if the check positivity price exceeds 10 per cent, then we have to reinstate the restrictive measures. Because the virus remains to be lurking round and we’re preventing the virus.”
