In Puducherry, the AIADMK on Monday urged Chief Minister N Rangasamy to take an all-party delegation to fulfill the Union Jal Shakti Minister and ask the Center to cease Karnataka from implementing the Mekedatu venture on the Cauvery river.

Former AIADMK MLA and social gathering’s Puducherry unit (East District) secretary A Anbalagan on Monday submitted a separate letter to Chief Minister and PWD Minister Ok Lakshminarayanan with the request.

He later advised reporters that the Mekedatu dam would trigger havoc for the ryots within the Karaikal area of the union territory because the waters of the Cauvery would have an effect on Puducherry, one of many states that cross the river.

Anbalagan mentioned the pursuits of the ryots of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal can be at stake.

He demanded that the federal government prepare a delegation to fulfill Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat to forestall Karnataka from going forward on the dam venture.

On 14 July, the AINRC-led NDA authorities determined to oppose the development of the dam.

In a gathering held on this regard, it was felt that if the dam is constructed, the move of Cauvery water might be affected to Tamil Nadu and consequently to Karaikal, an enclave of this union territory depending on it for agricultural functions.
