A person has been arrested for allegedly claiming to be an ‘intelligence officer within the US authorities’ and duping a Pune lady of Rs 9.65 lakh. Accused Amit Chavan is a resident of Baramati and met the lady on the connection app.

The 28-year-old lady, a textile designer, bought in contact with Chavan on the app in March they usually met one another in April. He reportedly launched himself as Rahul Patil, an intelligence officer working for the US authorities. He reportedly instructed the lady that his workplace handles 154 international locations and that he had come to India, which was “under his jurisdiction”, for the aim of investigation.

Later, the accused allegedly requested the lady to re-format her cellular phone and laptop computer, saying “they were being watched”. He additionally allegedly snatched the lady’s laptop computer price over Rs 1 lakh and by no means returned it. Chavan additionally took the cash saved by the complainant for his enterprise after assuring him that he would purchase the mandatory materials for the textile mill at a lower cost from his good friend in Gujarat.

The lady transferred Rs 8.37 lakh to the financial institution accounts utilized by Chavan. Realizing the fraud, he lodged a grievance with the cyber police station on June 30.

Investigation revealed that the accused was a resident of Baramati, from the place he was arrested.
