A fireplace broke out at Mahatma Phule Mandai, a 138-year-old iconic vegetable market in Pune, within the early hours of Friday.

Pune Fire Brigade officers stated that their management room acquired details about the hearth at round 12.30 am. A fireplace tender was instantly dispatched from the Kasba hearth station, which is only some hundred meters away.

“The old wooden structure in the eastern part of Mandai had caught fire. Since the fire was large and was spreading rapidly due to the wooden structure, fire brigade, water tankers and an angel vehicle were pressed into service,” stated hearth officer Pradeep Bedekar.

“We brought the situation under control within 20 minutes. This was followed by cooling operation. There was no report of any casualties. But some coaches in Mandai got damaged due to fire. Prima facie, we suspect that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit,” Bedekar stated.

Fire officers stated there was no crowd on the website because the incident befell at midnight. The space may be very crowded throughout the day.

Mandai was constructed throughout the British interval in 1882. The British named it Lord Ray Market after it was inaugurated by the then Governor of Bombay. The market remains to be operational as a retail heart with over 500 stalls of greens and fruits.
