The PUNE-based start-up has developed 3D-printed face masks, which have been specifically coated with antiviral brokers to supply further filtration of viruses reminiscent of SARS-nCov.

The mission to develop these masks was initiated by Thinker Technologies India Pvt Ltd final 12 months after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Technology Development Board (TDB) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST).

TDB funded the mission as a part of the central authorities’s efforts to assist scientists, industrialists and entrepreneurs to develop and commercialize medical units and allied merchandise to combat the pandemic.

“We realized that using face masks to forestall an infection (unfold) would turn into common, however realized that almost all masks have been of comparatively low high quality, which led us to embark on a mission to develop cost-effective and extra environment friendly masks ,” mentioned. The founder-director of the corporate is Sheetalkumar Jambad.

Using 3D printing, a coating formulation – a combination of sodium olefin sulfonate, which has properties to disrupt the outer membrane of the virus – is evenly coated onto the material layer. The builders mentioned that this layer may be integrated into any masks – N95, fabric or these with a plastic cowl.

“The filters of reusable masks have a filtration efficiency of more than 95 percent,” Zambad mentioned. Thus, this masks supplies a further safety that standard filtration mechanisms can obtain, the builders mentioned.

Since final 12 months, the corporate has distributed 6,000 disinfectant masks to hospitals in Nandurbar, Nashik and Bengaluru. Points at the moment are accessible commercially over-the-counter.
