Punjab AIG arrested in corruption case despatched to judicial custody

The district courtroom on Monday despatched Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) of Punjab Police Ashish Kapoor to judicial custody. Kapoor was produced earlier than the courtroom after his three-day police remand was over.

Kapoor was arrested on October 6 by the Vigilance Bureau (VB) after registering a case underneath related sections of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act on a criticism from Kurukshetra resident Poonam Rajan. Poonam accused him of taking a bribe of Rs 1 crore from him to clear the identify of him and his household in a case registered at Zirakpur police station.

Kapoor, posted because the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) within the Punjab Intelligence Department, was despatched to Patiala Jail and might be produced earlier than the courtroom on October 31.

Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Harjinder Singh, who was then posted in Zirakpur, was additionally arrested within the case and is in judicial custody, whereas Pawan Kumar, the then Station House Officer (SHO), Zirakpur is but to be arrested. .
