Rain wreaks havoc on the crops of Haryana farmers

Prabhu Ram, a Dalit farmer from Dul village in Haryana, seems at crops broken on account of waterlogging following incessant rains, on a hyperlink highway resulting in the neighboring city of Bhuna (Fatehabad).

“We had spent around Rs 4 lakh for paddy crop in 11 acres and Narma cotton in one acre. But now I am not expecting any production in my holdings,” stated Prabhu Ram.

In Dult, Dalit households make up about 40% of the village’s inhabitants of about 3,000. The crop loss brought on by the rains will not be the one loss to his household. Prabhu Ram stated, “The heavy rains also damaged our house which is located in the agricultural area. With great efforts, we managed to save our 12 cows and buffaloes from the falling house, but not without any injuries.”

Suresh Koth, a farmer chief, says, “Due to Aritya’s strike, the prices of 1509 varieties of paddy have fallen from the previous Rs 3,500 per quintal to Rs 2,000 per quintal. At the time of the agitation against the three central agricultural laws, a brotherhood had developed between the farmers and the arhtiyas. But this strike has created a rift between both the sections of the society as the farmers have suffered huge losses due to the strike by the arhtiyas.”

Amid calls for by farmers and opposition events for compensation for the affected farmers, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday admitted that crops have suffered lots on account of incessant and unseasonal rains. He stated, ‘Instructions have been issued to conduct particular girdawari to evaluate the injury to the crop.

The state income division has launched a system on the federal government’s portal “Meri Fasal-Mera Byora” the place farmers can report damages to their crops. However, the federal government has made it clear that no compensation shall be given to farmers lined underneath Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Mukhyamantri Bagwani Yojana (MMBBY) and Seed Development Programme.

The authorities has introduced paddy procurement from October 1, however farmer leaders say that they’d have been relieved in the event that they needed to buy paddy earlier.
