Rajya Sabha Pegasus ruckus: TMC pits MPs in protection of suspended Shantanu Sen

At least a dozen non-TMC opposition MPs within the Rajya Sabha are mentioned to have provided to testify in opposition to Union minister Hardeep Puri in protection of TMC MP Shantanu Sen. Suspended from the House for tearing the assertion of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav On the Pegasus problem.

The subsequent day, after Sen was suspended, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu known as the uproar a “clear attack on our parliamentary democracy”.

In a grievance to the Speaker of the House, TMC’s Chief Whip Sukhendu Shekhar Roy listed the names of senior Congress leaders, from TMC’s arch rival CPI(M) to Shiv Sena and P Chidambaram, who’re the leaders. “Ready to give statement” as an “eyewitness” in opposition to Puri.

Apart from TMC MPs, they embrace CPI(M)’s Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, Akali Dal’s Balwinder Singh Bhunder, SP’s Ram Gopal Yadav, RJD’s Manoj Jha, DMK’s Tiruchi Siva and a number of other Congress MPs, together with Digvijaya Singh and Shaktisinh Gohil other than Chidambaram, sources conscious of the grievance advised Indian Express.

In the grievance, the TMC’s chief whip has alleged “misbehavior” and “conversation” by the Union minister, and demanded a “thorough inquiry into the nuisance”.

“These names were brought to the notice of the Rajya Sabha Chairman when the MPs were asked whether they looked into the developments and were ready to confirm the sequence,” the sources mentioned.

On 23 July, Naidu had mentioned: “…Unfortunately, the proceedings of the House were snatched from the Minister and torn into pieces and thrown into the air, taking the proceedings of the House to a new level. It is a clear attack on parliamentary democracy. They do not cover the world’s largest democracy with glory.”

According to sources, the TMC believes that the inclusion of senior MPs from different events will add weight to its allegations. Further, he mentioned, the names of ground leaders of SP and DMK within the record point out that TMC has attain and dominance on the opposition spectrum.
