Remove Chelsea’s Russian proprietor Roman Abramovich, seize his property: UK MP in parliament

Labor MP Chris Bryant urged the British authorities on Friday to grab the property of Russian billionaire and Chelsea proprietor Roman Abramovich, citing issues about alleged hyperlinks to corruption.

Abramovich was recognized by the Home Office in 2019 as having hyperlinks to the Russian state in addition to to “corrupt activity and practices”, Bryant stated, suggesting the UK ought to seize his property and bar him from proudly owning the soccer membership.

Speaking within the House of Commons, Bryant urged the federal government to take away Abramovich’s possession of Chelsea and seize his property. “’As part of HMG’s [Her Majesty’s Government] Russia strategy aimed at targeting illicit finance and malign activity, Abramovich remains of interest to HMG due to his links to the Russian state and his public association with corrupt activity and practices.”

“An example of this is Abramovich admitting in court proceedings that he paid for political influence. Therefore HMG is focused on ensuring individuals linked to illicit finance and malign activity are unable to base themselves in the UK and will use the relevant tools at its disposal, including immigration powers to prevent this’.”

Bryant stated that the doc had been produced three years in the past. “Surely Mr Abramovich should no longer be able to own a football club in this country? Surely we should be looking at seizing some of his assets including his £152m home?”

Abramovich is considered one of Russia’s richest folks and is believed to be near President Vladimir Putin. Earlier this week, the UK authorities introduced it might impose sanctions on three billionaires with shut hyperlinks to Putin.
