Russia suspends participation in Ukraine grain export deal: TASS

Russia has suspended participation in a United Nations brokerage deal to export agricultural merchandise from Ukrainian ports after assaults on ships in Crimea, TASS quoted the Defense Ministry as saying on Saturday.

Russia stated Ukraine’s navy used drones to assault Black Sea Fleet ships early Saturday in Sevastopol, the most important metropolis in Russian-occupied Crimea.

“On account of … terrorist acts by the Kyiv regime with the participation of British experts against the ships of the Black Sea Fleet and civilian vessels involved in ensuring the security of the “grain hall”, the Russian facet suspended participation within the implementation of Ukrainian ports Agreement on export of agricultural merchandise from India,” the ministry stated in an announcement.

The ministry had earlier stated that Saturday’s drone strikes had been largely repulsed, by which a Russian suffered minor injury.

UN support chief Martin Griffiths stated on Wednesday he was “relatively optimistic” {that a} deal permitting Ukraine to renew Black Sea grain exports can be prolonged past mid-November.

Under the 22 July settlement, Ukraine was capable of resume its Black Sea grain and fertilizer exports, which had stalled when Russia invaded its neighbor on 24 February. The Ukraine export deal was initially agreed for 120 days.
