Chief selector Chetan Sharma heaped reward on in-form opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, saying the Maharashtra batsman will do a “miracle” for the nationwide crew.
The Indian crew is scheduled to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) towards South Africa at Paarl and Cape Town on January 19, 21 and 23 respectively.
For this, the choice committee led by Sharma on Friday chosen the crew.
“Look, absolutely (he has) got the opportunity at the right time. He was in the T20 team and now he is in the ODI team as well, wherever he can be made, the selectors are thinking that he will go and do wonders for the country,” Sharma stated on the crew choice press convention.
The 24-year-old Ruturaj, who hails from Pune, was the main scorer within the 2021 Indian Premier League, scoring 635 runs and was instrumental in serving to Chennai Super Kings win the title.
According to Sharma, Ruturaj was rewarded for his sensible efficiency.
“We have chosen him (Ruturaj). Now it’s as much as the (crew) administration that when he can play within the XI, when he’s wanted and how one can go in regards to the mixture, we are going to alter these items.
“But, currently, he (Ruturaj) was also in the T20I squad against New Zealand and he is in the ODI now. He is doing well and is rewarded for it,” added Sharma himself as the previous India pacer.
After his IPL excessive, the opener continued his stellar performances within the Vijay Hazare Trophy as properly and was the main scorer there, scoring 603 runs in 5 matches, together with his highest rating being 168.
He made his T20 International debut towards Sri Lanka in Colombo in July final 12 months.
