SC says ‘that is shameful’ when central authorities fails to file affidavit in demonetisation case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned for November 24 the listening to of petitions difficult the Centre’s 2016 resolution to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.

A five-judge structure bench headed by Justice SA Nazeer adjourned the matter after Attorney General R Venkataramani sought time to file a complete affidavit within the matter.

Venkataramani apologized to a bench of Justices BR Gavai, AS Bopanna, V Ramasubramaniam and BV Nagarathna for not having the ability to put together a complete affidavit and sought one week’s time.

Senior advocate Shyam Divan, showing for petitioner Vivek Narayan Sharma, submitted that this can be very uncommon to ask for an adjournment from the Constitution Bench.

On December 16, 2016, a bench headed by the then Chief Justice TS Thakur referred the query of validity of the judgment and different associated issues to a bigger five-judge bench for an official announcement.
