Sheel Vardhan Singh appointed CISF DG, Atul Karwal is new NDRF chief

The authorities on Tuesday introduced the appointment of chiefs of the 2 main Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). These are the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) – which has been with no common chief since May 25, when its then chief Subodh Jaiswal was appointed as CBI director – and, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which presently has IPS officer in SN. The chief is its chief.

Special Director in Intelligence Bureau Sheel Vardhan Singh has been appointed as the brand new CISF DG, whereas Director of National Police Academy Atul Karwal has been appointed as NDRF DG.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has authorised the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for appointment of Shri Sheel Vardhan Singh, IPS (BH: 86) Special Director to the put up of DG, CISF in LB, Level-17 of the Pay Matrix. In the case of CISF, the Government Order states that from the date of becoming a member of the put up and until 31.08.2023 i.e. the date of his retirement or till additional orders, whichever is earlier.

Another order mentioned that the ACC has authorised the appointment of Atul Karwal, IPS (GJ: 88), presently Director, SVP NPA in Level-16 of the Pay Matrix, to the put up of Director General, NDRF. Temporarily upgrading the put up of Director General. NDRF as much as the extent of DG on a person foundation for a interval of two years from the date of becoming a member of the put up or till additional orders, whichever is earlier.

While Singh is an IPS officer of Bihar cadre, Karwal is from Gujarat cadre.
