Eminent tabla participant Pandit Anindya Chatterjee has refused to obtain the Padma Shri award. Chatterjee is the second particular person from the colourful music world of Bengal after legendary singer Sandhya Mukherjee to be denied the Padma award.
The eminent percussionist, who carried out ‘jugal bandi’ (duet) with classical masters like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, on Wednesday stated he had acquired a name from Delhi on Tuesday looking for his consent. Accepting respect.
“Though I politely declined. I said thank you but I am not ready to accept the Padma Shri at this stage of my career. I have passed that stage,” stated Chatterjee, who acquired the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2002.
