South Africa: Supreme Court upholds former President Jacob Zuma’s jail sentence

South Africa’s Supreme Court on Friday rejected former President Jacob Zuma’s plea searching for the cancellation of his sentence 15 months jail for contempt of courtroom.

The Constitutional Court’s choice upheld its earlier ruling that Zuma must be jailed for refusing to testify on the fee of investigation into widespread corruption in authorities and state-owned firms whereas he was President of South Africa from 2009-2018 .

Zuma was jailed in July, however has since been granted medical parole for an undisclosed sickness. His launch has been questioned by opposition events, who say that the process was not adopted.

Justice Sisi Khampepe learn Friday’s ruling on the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg. It mentioned that upholding Zuma’s sentence was a 7-2-judge majority choice. The choice doesn’t have an effect on Zuma’s parole.

Zuma, 79, argued that his sentence was unfair as a result of, amongst different issues, he was jailed with out trial.
