Sterling says racist abuse didn’t cross his thoughts earlier than Chelsea transfer

Raheem Sterling stated that the racist abuse he confronted from a Chelsea fan at Stamford Bridge a number of years in the past didn’t cross his thoughts earlier than he made the choice to signal for the membership from Manchester City final month.

The 27-year-old England ahead stated the incident, which occurred at Stamford Bridge in 2018 and noticed Chelsea fan Colin Wing hit with a lifetime ban, had made him conscious of his obligations as a number one Black participant.

“It wasn’t something that played on my mind at all,” Sterling advised reporters forward of Chelsea’s house sport in opposition to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“I can’t let an incident from individuals change my perception of the club. I have no hatred or malice towards the individual.”

Sterling, who received 4 league titles with City, stated it had opened the door for him to know what his “true purpose is other than football”.

“Of course, football is my main goal and my main talent, but it’s the other thing that gives me the most joy. That’s helping people… I’ve moved away from the racial side of it and am focused more on helping and nurturing young Black people.”

Chelsea, who completed third final season, beat Everton of their Premier League opener.
