A day after the Trinamool Congress stated that it has despatched a petition searching for the disqualification of two of its Lok Sabha members Sunil Kumar Mandal and Sishir Adhikari, Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sudip Bandyopadhyay on Thursday met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. talked to. over cellphone and requested him to look into the petition.
“I had requested the Speaker in January this year to disqualify our MP Sunil Mandal from the Lok Sabha for joining the BJP. I had made a similar request against Sisir Adhikari, who later joined the BJP. But no action has been taken in this regard. I asked the Speaker to take immediate steps to disqualify him from the lower house of Parliament. Mandal had received from Bardhaman Purba Lok Sabha constituency within the 2019 normal elections, whereas Sisir Adhikari received from Kanthi. Both joined the BJP forward of the meeting elections within the state however didn’t resign from the Lok Sabha.
Shishir Adhikari is the daddy of Suvendu Adhikari, who left TMC and joined BJP and is now the Leader of Opposition within the Assembly.
Bandopadhyay stated he had written a letter to the Speaker on May 17 searching for “disqualification of Shishir Kumar Adhikari as a member of the Lok Sabha, as per Rule 6 of the Members of the Lok Sabha (Disqualification on the Ground of Defection) Rules, 1985. “
Bandopadhyay stated he had additionally despatched a reminder to the Speaker on May 12 about his earlier petition despatched in January searching for disqualification of Mandals below anti-defection guidelines.
Meanwhile, Mandal refused to touch upon the problem. “I’m not properly proper now… there’s a pandemic scenario occurring. I’ll discuss this situation later.”
