Supreme Court upholds loss of life sentence of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Mohammad Arif in 2000 Red Fort assault case

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the evaluation petition of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq, who was awarded loss of life sentence within the 2000 Red Fort assault case.

A bench of Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi stated, “We have accepted the prayer that digital data must be stored in thoughts. His guilt is proved. We affirm the view taken by this courtroom and dismiss the evaluation petition.”

On 22 December 2000, three individuals, together with two military personnel, had been killed within the assault on the Red Fort. On August 10, 2011, the Supreme Court upheld Arif’s loss of life sentence and dismissed his enchantment difficult the loss of life sentence awarded to him by a periods courtroom in 2005, which was confirmed by the Delhi High Court. In 2014, the Supreme Court had stayed his execution.

Arif from Abbottabad, Pakistan, was believed to be one of many six terrorists who barged into the Seventeenth-century monument and opened fireplace on guards of the Seventh Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles.
