Across the cremation ghats in Delhi, kalash and bag line storerooms as a result of many households have been unable to gather the ashes of their family members – both as a result of they contract kovids or they aren’t venturing out for concern of being contaminated.
According to Nigambodh Ghat officers, when the instances of Kovid have been at its peak in April, there have been many households who couldn’t come to gather the ashes and carry out ‘immersion’ (immersion).
“From April 1 to May 20, we cremated 2,500 people. About 50 of the ashes were left unclaimed. Half of these were because families were scared or facing financial issues, ”stated Aadesh Sharma, the in-charge of the crematorium, including that the ashes have been stored in storerooms.
Cremation coordinator Suman Kumar Gupta stated, “Some call and ask us to store it so that they can do it at a later date. Ghat committee enters and otherwise immerses. “

Meanwhile, 12 volunteers of the Devotthan Seva Samiti are gathering the ashes of those that couldn’t be immersed for related causes.

On weekends, 12 volunteers go in personal autos to Nigambodh Ghat, Punjabi Bagh, Sarai Kale Khan, Green Park and Madanpur Khadar Crematorium Ghats, accumulate ashes, and retailer them at Nigambodh Ghat.
Sharma stated that every bag comprises ‘Asthiya’ of about 40 individuals and so they have 153 such luggage.
“Some of them are unclaimed dead bodies. Many belong to economically weaker families who could not perform the last rites at the time, and some are from families that have had cases of covids or are afraid of contracting the virus from the crematorium, ”stated Sharma.
