Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) is a home-grown 155 mm x 52 caliber howitzer gun developed by the Pune-based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
Every 12 months, the unfurling of the Tricolour by the Prime Minister is adopted by a rendition of the nationwide anthem which synchronizes with the 21-gun salute fired by a ceremonial battery from an artillery regiment.
Over the years, this gun salute — that are blanks — is fired by the World War period howitzers of British make, generally known as ‘Ordnance Quick Fire 25 Pounder’ or simply 25 Pounder. From the battery of eight weapons that’s usually deployed for the salute, seven hearth three rounds every. This 12 months, some ATAGS weapons will probably be a part of the battery that can hearth together with some 25 pounders.

ATAGS is a totally indigenous towed artillery gun system challenge undertaken in mission mode by DRDO as part of artillery modernization program of the Indian Army. The ATAGS challenge was began in 2013 by DRDO to switch older weapons in service within the Army with a contemporary 155 mm artillery gun.
