Banerjee reached the ED’s Jam Nagar residence at round 11 am. He has been summoned as a part of the investigation of a felony case registered underneath the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The 33-year-old is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and represents the state’s Diamond Harbor seat within the Lok Sabha.
They are being probed in reference to the alleged multi-crore coal theft rip-off associated to the mines of Eastern Coalfields Limited in Kunustoria and Asansol and adjoining Kajora areas of West Bengal. The ED had earlier claimed that Abhishek Banerjee was the beneficiary of the cash acquired from this unlawful enterprise. He has been denying all of the allegations.
