TN fisherman injured in firing by Sri Lankan Navy personnel

A fisherman from Nagapattinam district suffered head accidents because the Sri Lankan Navy allegedly opened hearth whereas fishing together with others off the Kodiakarai coast.

Nagapattinam fisheries division officers stated that on July 28, a complete of 10 fishermen from Akkaraipettai and Keechanakuppamlets entered the ocean in a mechanized boat from Nagapattinam port.

When they have been fishing within the sea off the Kodiakarai coast close to the International Maritime Boundary Line within the early hours of Monday, a rushing automobile of Sri Lankan Navy personnel reportedly opened hearth on fishing boats within the neighborhood . added.

“Lankan Navy personnel began attacking a number of boats within the space. First stone pelting after which firing. One of the bullets hit our boat and it pierced a divide and hit one among us, Kalaiselavan. The bullet hit his head and he fell unconscious.

“We instantly diverted our boat in direction of the coast and proceeded to Kalaiselavan for Nagapattinam GH. He narrowly escaped with a head harm because of a bullet hit within the boat earlier than being shot.

He insisted that the Sri Lankan Navy allegedly opened hearth when the fishermen have been fishing inside Indian territory. The injured fisherman was a resident of Akkaraipettai village on this district.

Nagapattinam District Collector Dr Arun Thamburaj visited Nagapattinam GH and interacted with the affected fishermen. He inquired in regards to the incident.

Officials from Coastal Security Group Police, Q Branch and Fisheries Department are investigating. The incident triggered rigidity within the fishing villages of Nagapattinam district.
