Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged folks to be “vocal for local toys”, whereas interacting with members at Toycathon 2021, information company PTI reported.
“The global toy market is worth about $100 billion. Of which India contributes only $1.5 billion. “Today, we import almost 80 per cent of our toys from abroad. That is, crores of rupees of the country are going abroad on them. It is very important to change this situation,” Modi stated.
Emphasizing on the significance of toys, the Prime Minister recommended that “we should focus on developing games that present every aspect of Indianness in interesting, interactive ways”. He stated that if a toddler’s household is his first faculty, then toys are his first e-book and his first good friend.
Toycathon 2021 was a joint initiative of Ministry of Education, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of MSME, DPIIT, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and AICTE, organized on fifth January to crowd-source modern toys and video games concepts.
Around 1.2 lakh members from throughout India registered and submitted over 17,000 views. Of these, 1,567 concepts have been chosen for the three days. toycathon grand finale, which is being held from 22-24 June.
