West Bengal authorities appoints 10 IPS officers to assist SIT probe on post-poll violence

The West Bengal authorities has appointed ten IPS officers to help a Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrange by the Calcutta High Court to probe circumstances of post-poll violence within the state, a senior official stated on Thursday.

Officers have been deployed for the North, West and South areas of the state in addition to Kolkata Police areas.

“The services of IPS officers are spared, in addition to their normal duties, to assist the SIT constituted by the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta (sic),” stated an order issued by the state house division.

A five-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court had on August 19 ordered the formation of an SIT comprising IPS officers Soumen Mitra, Suman Bala Sahu and Ranbir Kumar to probe the incidents of post-poll violence.
