West Indies coach Phil Simmons resigns after T20 World Cup loss

West Indies head coach Phil Simmons resigned on Tuesday following an early exit from the T20 World Cup.

West Indies, two-time winners of the T20 World Cup, have been knocked out within the first spherical after dropping to Scotland and Ireland, ending on the backside of Group B.

Simmons will go away after the Windies’ two-Test sequence towards Australia, beginning November 30.

“I acknowledge that it is not just the team that is hurting but also the proud nations they represent,” Simmons mentioned in a press release.

“It is disappointing and heartbreaking however we simply have not come. We weren’t ok and now we have now to observe the play-out of the match with out our participation.

“This is immeasurable and for this I deeply apologize to my fans and followers.”

“It was earlier than expected, but now in Australia I will focus my energies on building on the excellent progress made by the Test team.”

Simmons took over in 2019 for his second stint in command of the West Indies. In its first, the group received the 2016 World T20 title.

Simmons was on prime in 2016 when West Indies defeated England on the Eden Gardens in Kolkata to win their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. Earlier this 12 months he guided the group’s fortunes to a 1-0 Test sequence win over England at residence to seize the Richards-Botham Trophy.
