In his autobiography, An Unsuitable Boy, Karan wrote that Hrithik was required to carry palms on the units of the movie for a number of causes.

I felt Hrithik was the only person who needed a little hand-holding during the shoot. See, the Bachchan family didn’t have that equation with them. Whatever was happening, Shahrukh was some distance away at that time. Kajol was team Shah Rukh,” he wrote.
Karan continued, “I felt I needed to hold his hand for a bit. And we developed a really good friendship. We grew close to each other- he was a lost child in this whole lot. Anyway. Hrithik is a bit awkward among people. He is not the most people friendly person. Now he has become much better.”
