When Star Wars took over a Scottish hydroelectric scheme

The makers of the Star Wars collection Endor have described filming in Scotland as a spotlight of the present’s on-location taking pictures.

Scenes for episode six, The Eye, have been filmed in and round Cruachan Hydro-Electric Scheme close to Dalmally in Argyll.

Production designer Luke Hull mentioned that the renewable power website, with its dam and underground energy station, gave the Disney collection producers the look they aspired to seize.

He mentioned: “If you look at the dam, it looks like a Darth Vader mask.”

The Cruachan was opened in 1965 and consists of a dam of 316 meters (1,037 ft), 46 meters (15 ft) tall.

Its energy station is positioned inside an enormous cave dug inside Mount Ben Cruachan and provides the hydro-electric scheme its nickname “Hollow Mountain”.
