Working with states to beat vaccine hesitation: Govt

Amid media stories alleging ‘vaccine hesitation’ amongst healthcare staff in rural areas, the Union Health Ministry on Friday stated it’s working carefully with states and union territories to resolve the problem.

The Government of India is supporting the efforts of States and Union Territories for an efficient immunization marketing campaign below the ‘Total Sarkar’ strategy from sixteenth January this 12 months.

There have been some media stories alleging ‘vaccine hesitancy’ in rural areas amongst healthcare staff, the ministry stated. “It is informed that vaccine hesitancy is a globally accepted phenomenon and should be addressed by studying it scientifically and addressing the issue at the community level,” the ministry stated in an announcement.

Keeping this in thoughts, a ‘COVID-19 Vaccine Communication Strategy’ overlaying the small print of vaccine hesitancy was shared with all of the States and Union Territories initially of the COVID-19 vaccination marketing campaign.

This technique was shared with IEC officers on orientation of state immunization and COVID-19 vaccination communication technique on January 25 with Mission Directors of National Health Missions of all states.

All states and union territories are following the identical and adopting methods as per native requirement, the assertion stated.

Several IEC supplies and prototypes for all media print, social and digital have been ready and shared with the States for appropriate adaptation at their stage.

The Union Health Ministry is working carefully with all states and union territories to handle the problem of vaccine hesitancy frequently.

In addition, it has knowledgeable all states and union territories to create consciousness amongst tribal communities by IEC materials on COVID-19 vaccines and COVID applicable behaviour, the assertion stated.

The Ministry can also be working in shut coordination with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs on this regard.
