World Championship: Bajrang Punia loses in quarterfinals, Sagar Jaglan will struggle for bronze

Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia (65kg) suffered a quarter-final loss on Saturday and crashed out of the gold medal hunt, whereas Sagar Jaglan will struggle for a bronze within the 74kg occasion on the Wrestling World Championships.

Two-time Commonwealth Games champion Bajrang suffered a technical superiority (10-0) defeat by the hands of 23-year-old Yianni Diakomihalis of America within the 65kg quarterfinal bout. The 28-year-old Indian, who has three World Championship medals to his identify, now two-time cadet world champion Dicomihallis, will look to achieve the finals to get a bronze medal via repechage.

Earlier, Bajrang had defeated Cuba’s Alejandro Enrique Valdes Tobier by factors (5-4) within the pre-quarterfinals.

On the opposite hand, 18-year-old Jaglan continued his quest for a bronze medal in 74kg as he defeated Mongolia’s Suldkhu Olonbayar 7-3.

The World Under-20 bronze medalist will tackle Iran’s Younes Alikbar Emamichoghai in a bronze medal match later within the day.

In the 97kg class, Vicky misplaced 2-2 to Samuel Scherer of Switzerland within the qualification spherical. He crashed out of the medal race together with Pankaj (61kg), who had crashed out within the first spherical after dropping to Kazakhstan’s Asil Aitakin.
