What is UP Free Smartphone Scheme for Students

Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will distribute free smartphones and tablets to around one crore final year students in the state. The first phase of the scheme will start on 25 December 2021, which marks the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. An official statement issued here on 20 December 2021 (Monday) said that on that day one lakh smartphones and tablets will be given to final year students at Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at Adityanath, accusing the chief minister of not knowing how to use a laptop. The UP State Government said that the distribution of tablets and smartphones under the UP Free Smartphone / Tablet Distribution Scheme will lead to technical empowerment of the youth. Not only will the youth be able to successfully complete their educational courses but after completing their education they can use the gadgets to work in various government/non-government organizations or self-reliant schemes.

A large number of girl students from every district of the state will participate in the program to be held on December 25, 2021. CM Yogi Adityanath will distribute 60 thousand smartphones and 40 thousand tablets to the youth in this program. About one crore students will be given free smartphones and tablets to make them technically strong. Preference will be given to final year students of MA, BA, BSc, ITI, MBBS, MD, BTech and MTech.

In the first phase, an order of about Rs 1 lakh has come.
