The Congress on Monday claimed that the BJP-led central authorities will not be permitting the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to acquire Kovidshield doses immediately from the city-based vaccine maker Serum Institute of India (SII).

“Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, on behalf of the Government of Maha Vikas Aghadi, had requested the city-based SII to provide 25 lakh doses for Pune. The SII agreed to this and informed the PMC that it is ready to supply the dosage to the civic body, provided the central government allows for the same,” mentioned state Congress vice chairman Mohan Joshi.

But the Center didn’t enable the PMC, he claimed.

Meanwhile, Mayor Muralidhar Mohol mentioned that the PMC had already written a letter to the Union Ministry of Health looking for permission to promote vaccine dietary supplements on to the PMC to SII.

“We have also sought an appointment with Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan to discuss the issue. SII is located in Pune and the city has been worst hit by Kovid-19, so we would request the Center to consider the city as a special case for purchasing vaccines directly from SII, ”he mentioned, including that the assembly ought to happen.
