Veteran politician Isaac Herzog has been elected the eleventh President of Israel in a secret poll within the Knesset (Parliament).

The 60-year-old former Labor chief, who’s the son of a former president, will grow to be Israel’s first president. His father, Chaim Herzog, served as Israel’s head of state between 1983 and 1993.

Herzog received the assist of 87 lawmakers within the 120-member home and defeated his rival Miriam Peretz by a snug margin.
