Zimbabwe fan banned after making an attempt to implicate participant in match-fixing

A cricket supporter has been banned for 5 years after unsuccessfully attempting to contain a Zimbabwe worldwide in a spot-fixing deal, Zimbabwe Cricket introduced on Saturday.

Edward Walter Mupangano, 27, from Harare was banned by Zimbabwe Cricket final August after he approached Luke Jongwe and sought to introduce him to an Indian bookie.

The bookmaker allegedly wished the participant to bowl in a pre-arranged method throughout a world match in return for a cost of $7,000, an announcement mentioned.

“The facilitator himself would allegedly receive $3,000 if the planned corrupt activity was successful. Jongwe immediately reported the approach,” it added.

Following an investigation, Mupangano accepted a cost of breaching Zimbabwe Cricket’s Anti-Corruption Code and was banned from all ZC-affiliated cricket venues and occasions for 5 years.

“ZC believes that instances corresponding to these exhibit the pressing want for Zimbabwe to have a authorized means to make fixing and another sporting corruption a legal offence.

“We believe that harsher sanctions, including custodial sentences, will help prevent one of the biggest threats to cricket’s credibility,” mentioned Tavengwa Mukuhalani, president of Zimbabwe Cricket.

“Making match-fixing and spot-fixing an offense will send a stern warning to criminals and potential criminals that there is no place for corruption in cricket and those involved should be jailed or thrown out of the game,” he added.
